An emblematic factory: Myrurgia
Some of the factories that were located in the Sagrada Família neighbourhood were emblematic. This is the case of Myrurgia, a major perfume company.
The factory, built in 1929, is an aesthetic Art-Deco building designed by the architect Antoni Puig i Giralt, and for which he received the first prize in an industrial and commercial architecture competition. The building remains one of the few examples of this artistic style in Barcelona.
In 1964 there was a big fire in the old factory that ended up affecting the whole plant. The burning of flammable materials endangered the neighbourhood. Later, a part of the factory was demolished, and it was converted into a hotel and a sports centre.
