A Mediterranean drink?
The Prussian taste, in L’Eixample
Nowadays, it is the venue for entertainment events and concerts such as La Mercè, and although the musical genres that sounds during the parties change, there is a common element: beer. The Damm family founded the great beer factory in Rosselló in 1905, after they merged with other small local producers such as Puigjaner, Fabre or Bohemia.
Fleeing from the Franco- Prussian war, the Damm arrived in Barcelona in 1872, ready to do business with the favourite drink of his country: beer. The 'Mediterranean beer' triumphed among the Catalan population and the production indexes took an upturn. In 1992, Estrella Damm packed the last beer batch in Rosselló before moving the factory to a new unit in El Prat del Llobregat.
After a complete rehabilitation, the ancient building still keeps the original aspect -with its emblematic fence designed by Mariscal- and currently houses the headquarters and various offices of the company.
